Praxis Automation Technology is pleased to announce that it recently has been awarded a contract by Wärtsilä UK Ltd for the automation- and power management system for two large, dual-fuel, roll-on roll-off (RoRo) passenger ferries for Caledonian Maritime Assets (CMAL) being built at Ferguson shipyard in Port Glasgow, Scotland.
The dual-fuel ships will be the first of their kind in the UK and are to be operated by Scottish ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac Ferries) on the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services network to a large number of ports along the west coast of Scotland.
Alwin Douwes, Sales Manager UK at Praxis: “Working as a team together with Wärtsilä UK on such a major project for a well-known customer makes my engineering heart beat faster. We are confident that our system will contribute to the optimal performance of the vessels and their operators; in the end they are the ones that are going to work with the system on a daily basis. CMAL also has good experience with the Praxis system. Therefore, selecting Praxis as a partner for this project was a more than logical decision.”
Bob Bell, General Manager at Wärtsilä UK Ltd: “Our subsidiary company, Ships Electronics Services (SES) and Praxis Automation Technology have a successful long-term relationship with a firm track record. We acquired SES in May 2019 with the specific objective of offering our customers a full package in Electrical and Electronic systems. This order demonstrates our understanding of our customer’s needs was sound. We look forward to working together on this and on other projects in the future.”
